The Day Before Your Spray Tan Appointment

Before your spray tan, there are a few essential steps to take:

• Shave or wax to remove unwanted body hair the day before your appointment.
• Get your manicure and/or pedicure done BEFORE your spray tan, not while it’s still developing. Nail salons often use oils or exfoliate your skin, which can affect your tan.
• Moisturize in the days leading up to your spray tan to give your skin an extra hydration boost. This step is one of the most important for achieving the best results.

The Day of Your Spray Tan Appointment

On the day of your spray tan, make sure to follow these guidelines to ensure your tan goes on smoothly and lasts as long as possible:

• Scrub your entire body with oil-free soap to remove any residue and return your skin to its CLEANEST state. Avoid creamy or moisturizing soaps; instead, use a translucent soap like Neutrogena Rainbath Shower Gel or even dish soap. Do not use sugar scrubs. If you don’t have the right soap, simply exfoliate with a clean washcloth and warm water.
• DO NOT apply deodorant, makeup, perfume, moisturizers, baby powder, or any other products that might create a barrier between your skin and the spray tan solution.
• Wear darker colors and loose-fitting clothes. Opt for sweatpants (without drawstrings), avoid ball caps, tight jeans or leggings, rough fabrics, or anything that could cause sweating after your spray tan.
• You can wear a thong, bathing suit, shorts, or regular brief underwear during the tan. Women can also choose to be topless if they prefer.
• Pull your hair away from your face and neck, secure it with a hair tie, and remove all jewelry before your appointment.
